{There are some great resources on the site I linked above...I've placed a hold through our library system on a few of the suggested books so that we can look through/read them.}

  1. I love the idea of monthly fun lists. The thing we're most looking forward to is welcoming our eldest home from his two months overseas. Miss 18 and I are going to a show this weekend. Miss 12 had a great list planned (we're in the southern hemisphere so gardening, nature hikes, swimming and the beach featured prominently along with lots of crafting) but a badly broken arm has put paid to that. Now that life is returning to normal after Christmas I think it is time to plan a new list.

    1. Sounds like you have some fun plans...sorry about the broken arm, though. I hope it heals well and quickly!

    2. Miss 12's list is emerging - a good mix of fun learning and just plain fun. We've got a couple of read-alouds (The Giver and The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate) lined up, artist study (Renoir), an outdoor play to attend (The Adventures of Robin Hood), a video watching marathon (we have been lent the complete BBC Jane Austen collection), a few days to celebraten(National Bird Day - okay this is American and we aren't but who cares, Winnie the Pooh Day, Joy Adamson's birthday, the anniversary of Poe's The Raven being published). Not to mention lotsnof game playingn- our current favourites are Dominion, Carcassone, Forbidden Island and Farkle but I think we might add Ticket to Ride to our collection this weekend. Then there are plans to have a picnic, go to our favourite berry farm for freshly made berry ice-cream, and make smores in a solar oven. More nature study is also on the cards - plans to be confirmed. All going well there will be a celebration for cast removal, but I suspect the operation to remove the wires currently holding the bones together (and the subsequent celebration) won't be until next month.

  11. Hi,
    do you and your kids come up with these lists together? Do you do any other more formal schooling, or just do these things and see where they take you?
    Thanks

    1. Hi Rachael! Thanks for your comment :)
      Yes, my girls and I come up with our lists together...we all add ideas. No, we do not do formal "schooling". We did try that when we first started homeschooling, but it did not work well for us at all. That doesn't mean that we don't ever do activities that could be construed as formal schooling, but it's because an interest in the activity is expressed. Now we do a lot more of seeing where life and various interests take us. Honestly, we end up covering all "subjects" in this more organic/natural/interest-filled way of learning...it's amazing and wonderful to me!
